Eyelid lift in Berlin
The eyes are one of the most sensitive organs of the human body and indispensable for coping with everyday life. However, the skin around the eyes is particularly thin and sensitive, making it easily vulnerable. Environmental influences and aging processes affect the eye area particularly early.
"The eyes are the window to the soul" they say - and we want to keep this window aesthetic, young, and radiant. However, eye wrinkles, droopy eyelids, or eye bags stand in the way. Droopy eyelids caused by sagging eyelids appear unaesthetic to some people and do not allow for the desired youthful radiance.
Since maintaining youth is one of people's most desired concerns, eyelid corrections are among the most frequently performed operations in plastic-aesthetic surgery.

- Immediately after the surgery, cool the eye area to reduce swelling. Sleep with the upper body elevated, avoid physical activities, direct sunlight, and bright rooms. Do not insert contact lenses for at least two weeks, apply wound and scar gel to the affected areas after suture removal. Avoid make-up and creams around the eyes for at least one week.
Before the procedure, the incision line is drawn on the eyelid skin and the amount of skin to be removed during the operation is measured. After your clear consent, the procedure begins under local anesthesia, twilight sleep, or general anesthesia. An incision is then made along the eyelid crease, and the excess skin and, if necessary, underlying muscle or fatty tissue are removed. Since the incision is made along the eyelid crease, it will not be visible afterwards, and scars will be well concealed. The entire operation is performed under loupe magnification with a very fine thread. This procedure mainly distinguishes between upper and lower eyelid lift. Since this is a minor procedure, it is usually completed within one to two hours. The sutures are usually removed after one week.
An eyelid lift is generally a low-risk procedure. If performed by an experienced specialist, you can generally expect no serious consequences. However, an eyelid lift is also a surgical procedure and, like any other procedure, can entail certain risks and consequences. Possible side effects include swelling, bruising, or irritation of the conjunctiva and cornea. Some patients report a strong feeling of tension. In isolated cases, scarring may harden or inflammation may occur along the sutures. Aesthetic failures are also a risk factor, but can usually be excluded with a clear conscience if the treatment is performed by an experienced specialist after extensive consultation. However, to minimize possible risks as much as possible, we recommend that you do not take blood-thinning medications such as aspirin before the operation, refrain from consuming nicotine and alcohol as much as possible two weeks before the operation, eat light food and drink clear liquids the evening before the operation, and remain sober six hours before the operation. Immediately after the procedure, slight post-operative bleeding and pain when closing and opening the eyes may occur. These symptoms are completely normal and not a sign of failed wound healing. However, should the pain persist for a longer period and the bleeding not subside, I am of course available for a consultation or follow-up appointment in my Berlin practice.
Swelling of the eye area and bruising are absolutely normal immediately after the operation and subside after a few days. To relieve pain and reduce swelling, I recommend that you regularly cool the eye area. Cooling pads, cooling ointments or even cooling glasses are particularly suitable for this. Always treat the affected areas gently and carefully. Most patients experience no pain immediately after the procedure. To counteract potentially occurring pain, we prescribe a pain medication that you can take if you experience discomfort. In the first few days after the operation, you should urgently refrain from consuming alcohol and cigarettes. You should also avoid heat in the eye area and touch the operated areas as little as possible. For at least one week, you should avoid all cosmetic products in the eye area and, if you wear contact lenses, switch to glasses for two weeks. In the following weeks after the operation, your eyes will also be much more sensitive than before. Therefore, avoid direct sunlight as much as possible, wear sunglasses outdoors and look at technical devices as little as possible. The entire wound healing process can extend over up to six weeks and you will usually be able to see the final result two months after the procedure.
Facts and information about eyelid lift
An eyelid lift is a surgical procedure in which excess skin and underlying muscle and fatty tissue are removed. The goal of an eyelid lift is to rejuvenate the eye area by tightening the upper or lower eyelids. In some cases, both upper and lower eyelids are tightened simultaneously.
What is an eyelid lift?
An eyelid lift primarily serves to remove unwanted eye bags or droopy eyelids, which is achieved by removing excess skin and underlying muscle and fatty tissue. The skin around the eyes is sustainably smoothed and tightened, making the eye region appear directly younger and fresher.
When is an eyelid lift advisable?
Basically, an eyelid lift is an aesthetic procedure that aims to help people who suffer from an old and tired appearance due to eye bags or droopy eyelids regain a youthful and radiant appearance. However, in some cases, the procedure may also be medically necessary.
This is the case when the sagging of the eyelids significantly restricts the field of vision. The sagging of the eyelids can occur naturally due to the aging process, but also due to the consumption of alcohol and tobacco, unhealthy diet, stress, lack of sleep, and excessive sun exposure. Of course, droopy eyelids and eye bags can also simply be genetically determined.
What results can be achieved with an eyelid lift?
During an eyelid lift, excess skin, fat, and muscle tissue are removed from the eyelid. The remaining skin is tightened, which also significantly reduces eye wrinkles. Depending on the extent, the procedure can focus on the upper eyelid, but can also be combined with a tightening of the lower eyelid.
Since the incision runs along the eyelid, the already barely visible scars are sustainably concealed. The eye area contributes greatly to the overall radiance of our face. A firm, smooth eye region radiates youth, freshness, and health and makes our overall appearance more aesthetic to others. The extent of the procedure depends on the severity of your droopy eyelids and eye bags. You can see the final result two months after the operation - this usually lasts up to ten years.

Benefits of an Eyelid Lift
With an eyelid lift, you regain your clear vision and achieve a youthful, fresh appearance. Droopy eyelids are completely eliminated, and tiredness and sluggishness disappear from your face.

Which methods can be used for an eyelid lift?
If a surgical procedure for the removal of your droopy eyelids and eye bags seems too radical to you and you are looking for an alternative method to treat them, traditional home remedies such as ice cubes, cool pads, or cucumber slices can be used to reduce swelling.
However, these methods are only short-lived and do not lead to a long-lasting result. Often, for significant complaints, there is no way around surgery. In plastic-aesthetic surgery, the eyelid lift with laser has proven particularly successful as an alternative to surgical intervention.
Eyelid lift with laser
Mostly, a CO2 laser is used for this method - the treatment is invasive and takes about 15-30 minutes. The skin on the uppermost layer is removed with a concentrated light beam, which leads to the formation of new, firmer skin.
However, this method is only suitable for minimally drooping eyelids.
Procedure of an Eyelid Lift
An eyelid lift is a procedure that requires good preparation and follow-up, as well as extensive consultation, to be undertaken with the best conscience. Basically, an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) can only be performed if there is enough tissue available. The procedure itself consists of the following components:
- Tightening of the region above the eyes
- Removal of excess skin and, if necessary, underlying fat and muscle tissue
Preparation and thorough examination
As a precaution, the doctor examines all parameters of the anatomy and function of your eyelids before the operation. Depending on how pronounced your droopy eyelids are and what their condition is, it will be decided which techniques will be used for the procedure and how the incision will be made.
On the day of the surgery
Immediately before the surgery, the incision lines are drawn on the eyelid skin. The procedure can generally be performed under local anesthesia, twilight sleep – general anesthesia is recommended for very anxious patients. The procedure is gentle and careful, using a scalpel. Afterwards, the surgical incisions are sutured with a fine, thin thread. Typically, an eyelid lift takes about one hour. After one to two weeks, you are usually able to resume social and work activities. The stitches are removed after one week.
Immediately after the surgery
Immediately after the surgery, you will remain in my practice for one to two hours for observation and examination. During the first three days after the procedure, you should urgently rest and avoid physical activities.
The days and weeks thereafter
During the recovery phase, you can counteract any pain that occurs with regular cooling. Avoid direct sunlight, cosmetic products, and sports. In case of severe, persistent pain, which should not occur under normal circumstances, be sure to visit me in my practice for an examination.
