Upper Eyelid Lift in Berlin
Hardly any other area of the face shapes our charisma and the way we appear to others as strongly as our eyes. However, the natural aging process and stressful environmental influences become particularly noticeable, and often very early, on the very sensitive skin of the eye region. Droopy eyelids, sagging skin, eye wrinkles, or dark circles often lead to a change in the entire facial expression. The face appears tired, sad, and years older. With the tools of aesthetic and plastic surgery, such changes can be sustainably corrected.
We would be happy to advise you on individual options for upper eyelid lift. You can arrange a non-binding consultation appointment in my specialist practice for plastic-aesthetic surgery in Berlin.

I perform upper eyelid surgery in my practice in Berlin. The treatment is possible both as an outpatient procedure and with an inpatient stay. Before the procedure, I first mark the exact position for each incision on your upper eyelids with a skin pen. I will ask you several times to open or close your eyes. Afterwards, you will receive a sedative that will put you into a light twilight sleep. For local anesthesia, four small, barely noticeable injections are then made into the eyelids. The actual droopy eyelid surgery is performed gently and carefully with a scalpel or a high-frequency probe. To remove sagging skin as well as excess fat and muscle tissue on the upper eyelids, plastic-surgical precision work is required. The surgical incisions are sutured with medical thread. The procedure is completed in a maximum of 1 hour. Suture removal is usually performed five days later. You will be able to work and socialize again after about one week.
Upper eyelid surgery is an extremely low-risk procedure. Complications are not to be expected either during or after blepharoplasty. Nevertheless, risks and undesirable side effects with eyelid surgery, as with any other operation, cannot be completely ruled out. These include bleeding, wound healing disorders, infections, and allergic reactions to medication or anesthetics. You can be sure that I and my team in my specialist practice for plastic and aesthetic surgery in Berlin ensure that such risks play practically no role.
Swelling and bruising around the eyes are not always avoidable after upper eyelid surgery, but they usually subside completely within one week after the procedure. Time, rest, and continuous cooling are important directly after the operation. For this, you can use compresses with a cooling solution, migraine glasses, or soft cooling elements.
Eyelid correction: sustainably correct droopy eyelids and eye wrinkles
Eyelid surgery is one of the most frequently requested cosmetic surgical operations – patients particularly often come to my practice with the desire for upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). This is a quick and uncomplicated cosmetic surgical procedure that is almost always performed under local anesthesia and does not take longer than 1 hour.
Before upper eyelid correction, we discuss the procedure and the expected result of the operation in a detailed consultation. It is also discussed whether it makes sense to supplement the eyelid lift with further treatments to achieve optimal results.
With upper eyelid surgery to beauty, positive radiance, and greater well-being
Sagging upper eyelids – the so-called droopy eyelids – and eye wrinkles change the expression of the face. Those affected appear sad, tired, and optically older than they are. Through upper eyelid surgery, women as well as men regain an open gaze and their positive, youthful radiance.

How do droopy eyelids develop?
Droopy eyelids – in medical terminology: blepharochalasis – develop due to fat deposits and excess tissue on the upper eyelids. This simultaneously increases the tendency for wrinkles laterally next to the eye.
Responsible for this are aging processes that lead to the skin of the eyelids losing its elasticity. The amount of the structural protein collagen decreases, so that the skin of the eyelid sags and droopy eyelids and eye wrinkles develop. Genetic predispositions, environmental influences, and aspects of our lifestyle can have the same effect. Among other factors, UV radiation, smoking, and stress also contribute to the intensification of skin aging.
With hooded eyelids, the skin of the upper eyelids sags so much that it hangs over the eyelid crease. They can form on both eyes or only on one eye. Women and men are equally affected.
Are hooded eyelids only a cosmetic problem?
For most people, hooded eyelids and eye wrinkles are primarily a cosmetic problem. Due to the drooping upper eyelids and the concealment of the eyelid crease, they feel impaired in their self-perception and their aesthetic effect on others, which can result in severe psychological stress. However, severely pronounced hooded eyelids can also lead to restrictions in the field of vision. Likewise, hooded eyelids can cause eyelashes to be pressed into the eye, so that the eyeball is permanently irritated. However, medical indications for an upper eyelid lift are rare.
What results can be achieved with an upper eyelid lift?
Due to the sagging skin on the upper eyelid and eye wrinkles, a person's entire appearance can change significantly – the entire face looks old and tired. An upper eyelid lift restores the original condition of the eye area through a straightforward and low-pain procedure. By sustainably eliminating hooded eyelids, the eyes regain their open, radiant appearance and a fresh, clear look.
The results of the treatment are visually impressive and last for 10 to 15 years. By removing hooded eyelids and eye wrinkles, your face and appearance will look fresh and youthful again. Through the often only minor correction, you emphasize and revitalize your individual beauty.
While an upper eyelid lift cannot stop the aging process and its influence on the skin, its aesthetic effects are significantly mitigated over a long period. If necessary, a blepharoplasty can be easily repeated.

Upper eyelid lift – detailed consultation, individual treatment in Berlin
During the first consultation, I will get to know your personal circumstances and wishes, explain the procedure of an upper eyelid lift, and inform you about the possibilities and limitations of this treatment.
Preparations for an eyelid lift include a thorough physical examination and the creation of your personal treatment plan. In the consultation, we also clarify whether it makes sense for an optimal overall result to combine blepharoplasty with another procedure – for example, a lower eyelid lift or a wrinkle treatment.
How is an upper eyelid lift performed?
An upper eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) is one of the standard operations in aesthetic plastic surgery. The operation duration is 45 minutes to 1 hour. Excess skin, sagging muscle tissue, and fatty tissue on the upper eyelid are removed. At the same time, wrinkles around the eye are reduced or completely eliminated. This makes not only the eye area but the entire facial expression appear younger and fresher. How much skin and tissue needs to be removed depends on the individual condition of the upper eyelids.

Where in the eye region are incisions necessary for an upper eyelid lift?
For an upper eyelid lift, a vertical incision is made approximately 10 to 12 millimeters above the eyelid margin, extending over the entire upper eyelid. In some cases, this incision is also extended slightly laterally beyond the upper eyelid. Depending on individual circumstances, smaller diagonal incisions may also be necessary on the eyelid to remove excess skin as well as excess fat and muscle tissue and thereby tighten the eyelid. The incision line is drawn as an exact sketch on the skin of the upper eyelid before the procedure.
Incision and scar in eyelid lift surgery
The scars caused by the upper eyelid lift are small and barely visible after the healing process is complete. In addition, they are located in the natural crease of the upper eyelid, so they do not affect the optical and aesthetic result of the procedure.
Post-treatment of an upper eyelid correction: what you should know
What can I expect after an upper eyelid lift?
In the first few days after an upper eyelid lift, there may be post-operative bleeding, a slight protrusion of the eyelids, dry eyes, or tearing. Swelling and slight bruising on the eyelid are normal immediately after the operation.
What to do after an upper eyelid correction?
In the first few days after the operation, you should sleep with your head and upper body slightly elevated. The freshly operated eyelids should not come into contact with water for at least three days.
In the first seven days after eyelid surgery, please refrain from using make-up in the eye region to prevent wound healing disorders or a so-called scar tattooing due to pigment particles. The application of creams or massages to the eye area is also absolutely taboo until the sutures can be removed.
Eyes and sensitivity after blepharoplasty
Your eyes will be very sensitive for some time after the operation. Therefore, you should completely avoid watching television and working on the computer during the first week. Outdoors, it is advisable to wear sunglasses for one to two months due to the increased light sensitivity of the eyes and the entire surgical area.
Eye Lift: Healing Process
Overall, the wound healing process after this operation can take several weeks – in some cases, it is only completely finished after six months. Initially, the scars are still very red, but over time they become increasingly inconspicuous until they are finally – if at all – only recognizable as a fine line. For further questions, my team and I are happy to assist you at our practice in Berlin.
Do your eyes appear smaller due to droopy eyelids? Do you look tired?
An upper eyelid correction can sustainably correct droopy eyelids and eye wrinkles. The aesthetic results of the procedure will convince you and surprise you very positively.
Frequently Asked Questions
The professional title of cosmetic surgeon is not protected in Germany and the European Union - however, a doctor using this term is not engaging in serious advertising. For an eyelid lift and all other applications in plastic-aesthetic surgery, you should exclusively choose a doctor who has many years of proven experience in this field and has completed several years of theoretical and practical training for it. Common designations that refer to this are, for example, "Specialist in Plastic-Aesthetic Surgery", "Specialist in Plastic Surgery" or "Doctor for Plastic-Aesthetic Operations".
I personally became increasingly interested in aesthetic-plastic surgery during my studies and completed a corresponding specialist training. I was also able to continuously deepen my knowledge in this field afterwards during my work in the clinic and in my practice.
An upper eyelid lift is suitable for women as well as men whose upper eyelid skin has sagged, resulting in droopy eyelids. An upper eyelid lift sustainably eliminates a droopy eyelid. This rejuvenates your entire facial expression and restores a fresh, youthful appearance.
An upper eyelid lift is an uncomplicated procedure that is performed on an outpatient basis. A longer stay in the clinic is not necessary. After the eyelid lift, you rest for some time in the clinic connected to our practice and then go home.
In principle yes - but it is not absolutely necessary. Complete anesthesia for this procedure is primarily an option for particularly anxious patients. However, pain is effectively and reliably eliminated even with local anesthesia. In addition, you will receive a sedative before the injections for local anesthesia of the upper eyelid, which will put you into a light twilight sleep.
If you wish to have general anesthesia for your upper eyelid lift, please speak to me about it. In other cases - for example, when combining the eyelid lift with another plastic-aesthetic procedure - I, as your doctor, will give you a corresponding recommendation.
A blepharoplasty under general anesthesia is also performed on an outpatient basis. After the procedure, you can also leave the clinic directly after a rest period. Important: On the day of the operation, you should avoid driving after general anesthesia.
The result of an upper eyelid lift lasts for ten to 15 years. However, since age also leaves its marks on the skin around the eyes after the procedure, another eyelid lift will eventually be necessary. It can be easily performed over the already existing scar.
For the preparation for an upper eyelid lift, the same measures are important as before any other surgical procedure. One week before the procedure, you should stop blood-thinning medication and no longer use sleeping pills. It is also advisable to avoid alcohol consumption during this time.
On the day of the operation, please do not use creams and make-up. It is optimal if you bring dark sunglasses to the appointment at the practice to conceal the visible traces of the procedure. In addition, you must expect strong sun and light sensitivity of the eyes in the first few days.
If the upper eyelid lift is performed by an experienced expert in plastic-aesthetic surgery, unwanted and unnatural changes in facial expressions are excluded.
The operation influences the facial expression in a positive sense: you look younger and fresher. Your natural and individual facial expressions are optimally showcased after the removal of droopy eyelids.
This ensures a complication-free healing process and an optimal result of the upper eyelid surgery. Swelling and bruising can be effectively treated by cooling.
No. The incisions to remove droopy eyelids are made in the natural crease of the upper eyelid. After the healing phase is complete, they are no longer visible.
Together with an upper eyelid lift, Dottore Caletti offers, for example, lower eyelid lifts, the correction of dark circles, and wrinkle treatments and facial modeling with hyaluronic acid or autologous fat (Nanofat or Lipofilling). Such aesthetic-plastic treatments can be easily performed together with an upper eyelid surgery.
In many cases, a combination of blepharoplasty with other therapies is desirable to achieve an optimal overall result. In a detailed consultation before the procedure, we will clarify whether a combination of several therapies is desirable and sensible for you.
Coverage of the costs for the operation by health insurance is only possible if the blepharoplasty is to be performed due to a medical indication - for example, if the droopy eyelids restrict the field of vision. In practice, however, medical indications for this procedure are extremely rare. Reimbursement of costs for an exclusively cosmetically motivated operation by health insurance cannot generally be made.
Certain diseases and medications can be contraindications to eyelid surgery. These include, for example, severe high blood pressure, advanced arteriosclerosis, certain autoimmune diseases, or poorly controlled diabetes mellitus. If you are currently on thrombosis prophylaxis with blood-thinning medications, the operation must be postponed.
During the anamnesis, I will, of course, ask you questions about pre-existing conditions and the intake of medications and decide whether the procedure is possible. In most cases, however, a solution can be found even with existing contraindications, so that the operation can be performed without increased risks.
If upper eyelid surgery is performed by an experienced specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery, hardly any complications are to be expected.
To avoid complications, we recommend that you stop using blood-thinning medications as well as sleeping pills and painkillers one week before the treatment. You should also refrain from alcohol and nicotine during this time or reduce consumption as much as possible.
