Breast augmentation with autologous fat in Berlin
Dissatisfaction with cup size or breast shape is not uncommon. Many women desire fuller breasts but shy away from implants because they do not want a foreign body in their body or have already had bad experiences with implants.
As an alternative to implants, there is also the option of performing breast augmentation with autologous fat (lipofilling). In this procedure, fatty tissue is liposuctioned from another part of the body under general anesthesia. The injected fat quickly integrates and develops blood vessels. Since it is not an artificial foreign body, the risks are reduced compared to an operation with an implant.
In our specialist practice for plastic and aesthetic surgery in Berlin, we offer breast augmentation with autologous fat. Depending on your wishes, the procedure can be adapted to specific desires such as modeling or correcting asymmetries. Additionally, it is also possible to combine the procedure with liposuction.

The procedure is carried out in two steps. First, fat is removed from a suitable area. The abdomen, hips, thighs, or buttocks are usually considered for this. After the fat has been removed, it must be sterilely processed. Processing takes some time, which is why the operation also lasts approximately 2 hours. After the qualitative fat and stem cells have been filtered, they can now be injected. The fatty tissue is injected into targeted areas behind the mammary glands and into the lower fatty tissue. There are natural cavities there that are particularly suitable for injections. This allows the fat to grow better and creates a natural appearance of the breasts. Incisions are not necessary for this procedure – if so, only for the introduction of the cannulas. The procedure is not only suitable for breast augmentation but can also specifically change the shape of the breasts and correct size differences or asymmetries. The procedure can be combined with other treatments, such as liposuction.Breast augmentation with autologous fat can be performed on an outpatient or inpatient basis. For inpatient treatment, an overnight stay is sufficient in most cases.
Like any procedure, this operation also carries certain risks. However, these can be minimized by an experienced surgeon. Nevertheless, there are general surgical risks such as bleeding, secondary bleeding, pressure damage, and wound healing disorders. In addition, you should follow the aftercare recommendations to minimize further risks.
Healing after breast augmentation with autologous fat is usually much faster than healing after breast augmentation with an implant. However, not only the injection sites but also the fat removal sites must heal.Like every other patient, you will receive a personal aftercare plan to create the optimal conditions for your healing. You should definitely sleep on your back for the next few weeks to protect your breasts and not burden them with any additional weight.
Sports and healing
After about 6 to 8 weeks, you can slowly and carefully start with sports activities again. However, you should avoid sports such as jogging. You should also avoid the sauna. For the first 6 weeks, you should also not expose your skin to the sun to avoid unsightly scar pigmentation.
Healing is faster than with a breast implant. Swelling and redness should have subsided after about 1 week. However, healing varies for each patient and can differ in duration from patient to patient.Although small needles are used and the fat is injected very evenly, it is to be expected that not 100% of the injected fat will be supplied with blood. Therefore, there can always be a reduction in fatty tissue in the 1st year. The final result should appear after one year. At this point, the remaining fat has grown in and is supplied with blood.
Breast augmentation with implants or autologous fat
Breast augmentation with autologous fat can offer you a very natural result. However, with the help of autologous fat, you can achieve at most one cup size larger in one procedure. Autologous fat is perfectly suited to correct asymmetries or to model the shape of the breasts. The procedure is therefore particularly suitable for women who desire a moderate enlargement and, above all, a natural result. The procedure is also less risky and offers a shortened healing time.
With an implant, however, you can decide more flexibly which size you desire. Implants are available in many different sizes. Furthermore, this procedure is not dependent on the patient's existing fat deposits. For very slender patients, it can be difficult to remove enough autologous fat. With implants, you don't have to worry about this aspect. In addition, the procedure is limited to your breast. In the case of breast augmentation with autologous fat (lipofilling), the fat removal sites must also heal.
Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages. It is always an individual decision which choice is best for you. This also depends on other factors, such as your wishes and physical conditions.
Frequently asked questions
The procedure is for women who reject foreign bodies or have already had problems with implants but still desire an enlargement. Furthermore, this alternative is very well suited for women who desire a particularly natural result.
Generally, you should rest for 6 to 8 weeks after your procedure. You can start with light activities and then gradually work your way up to sports like jogging. For the first 6 weeks, you should also avoid heavy lifting. In this case, anything heavier than three kilograms is considered heavy.
Various pre-existing conditions or allergies to medications can make the procedure impossible. Also, if it turns out that the desire for breast augmentation does not come from the patient herself, the procedure should not be performed. Unrealistic expectations can also be a reason why breast augmentation is not performed.
The motives and possible pre-existing conditions are determined during the personal consultation, and expectations are discussed accordingly.
After the operation, the breasts feel very swollen and tight. It can take some time for the swelling to subside. However, the period is very individual and can vary significantly.
After approximately one year, the final result should be visible. At this point, the new fatty tissue has grown in and is supplied with blood.
