Chin wrinkle removal

Chin Wrinkle Removal in Berlin

Unlike fine lines around the eyes, wrinkles in the chin area are often noticed relatively late. Once they become visible, however, they can be aesthetically troubling. This uneven, dimpled appearance is sometimes referred to as a ‘strawberry chin’ or ‘cobblestone chin’.

Chin wrinkles can make the lower face look particularly uneven: the skin appears increasingly creased, the groove beneath the lower lip becomes more pronounced and the entire mouth area may seem to droop. Many patients therefore seek an effective treatment to reduce chin wrinkles. I offer suitable non-surgical treatments at my practice in Berlin.

Chin wrinkle treatment does not usually require a hospital stay and can be performed as an outpatient procedure at my practice in Berlin. During a personal consultation, I will explain the options available to you. Modern plastic and aesthetic surgery offers several non-surgical methods of smoothing the skin without a scalpel. Although chin wrinkles are a natural sign of ageing, their appearance can often be reduced effectively.

Before the injections, an anaesthetic cream is applied to the areas being treated to minimise discomfort. The cannulas used to administer the product are extremely fine, so most patients feel little more than a slight pulling sensation at the injection sites. Depending on its extent, treatment usually takes between 20 and 40 minutes. The precise procedure depends on the findings and the injection techniques used.

Injectable treatment of chin wrinkles is generally considered low risk. Hyaluronic acid fillers are well tolerated by most patients, although adverse reactions cannot be ruled out entirely. The hyaluronic acid used in modern fillers closely resembles the substance found naturally in the body and is produced biosynthetically without animal-derived ingredients.

To help minimise swelling and bruising, a cooling mask is applied to your face immediately after treatment. Fillers and botulinum toxin usually involve little or no downtime, and most patients can return to work and everyday activities straight away. Any redness or minor bruising can generally be covered with make-up after around two hours. No special aftercare is normally required following filler treatment, although you may cool the treated areas during the first day if needed. You should avoid hot baths, exercise and strenuous physical activity for the first two days. After one week, you can usually return to saunas, solariums and cosmetic facial treatments.

What Are Chin Wrinkles and How Do They Develop?

Facial expressions create small dimples across the chin. Younger skin is sufficiently elastic to smooth itself again after each movement. Over time, however, facial skin loses fat and collagen. Expression lines then develop in many areas because the skin no longer returns completely to its original smooth state after movement or muscular tension.

Chin Wrinkles Caused by Repeated Muscle Tension

Facial muscles and wrinkle formation on the chin
Our facial muscles create our expressions—and contribute to wrinkle formation. The principal muscle of the chin is the mentalis muscle.

Repeated muscular tension gradually leaves its mark on the skin. Initially, this may appear as fine lines, which can later develop into deeper furrows. As the mouth and chin are highly active areas of facial expression, chin wrinkles are primarily associated with repeated contraction of the mentalis muscle.

Are Chin Wrinkles Simply a Sign of Ageing?

Wrinkle formation caused by collagen loss
As we age, declining levels of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid contribute to the formation of wrinkles.

Everyone develops facial wrinkles with age. Certain factors can accelerate or encourage their formation, including UV exposure, smoking, a nutrient-poor diet and a stressful lifestyle. Repeated tension in particular muscle groups can also accelerate the development of chin wrinkles. A pronounced chin crease usually appears relatively late, often after wrinkles have already formed elsewhere on the face.

The Distinctive Features of the Chin Area

Strawberry chin or cobblestone chin
Multiple small dimples on the chin are sometimes described as a ‘strawberry chin’ or ‘cobblestone chin’.

The area around the chin is involved in frequent facial movement. The skin moves whenever we laugh, cry or speak, when our lips tremble or when we raise the corners of the mouth.

Children already move this area intensively, whilst adults often habitually tense the muscles involved. The chin is a continuation of the mouth area, where the familiar marionette lines also develop. Pronounced marionette lines can create a persistently downcast or sad appearance. In adults, the soft-tissue contour over the chin commonly develops a rounded surface that is prone to dimpling.

As the skin in this area loses elasticity, collagen production declines and fat compartments diminish, some dimples remain visible for increasingly long periods. Unlike changes in certain other areas of the body, chin wrinkles cannot simply be improved through exercise.

Can Chin Wrinkles Be Prevented?

Facial yoga for chin wrinkles
Facial yoga may help to delay the development of chin wrinkles.

Avoiding the contributing factors mentioned above, not smoking and protecting your skin from the sun may help delay the development of a so-called strawberry chin and other chin wrinkles. Skincare tailored to your individual skin type, particularly adequate moisturisation, can also help the skin remain smooth for longer. Sufficient sleep supports skin regeneration, as skin cells recover during the night.

Can Awareness and Facial Movement Help Prevent Wrinkles?

Facial yoga and greater awareness of habitual muscle tension around the chin may help the chin, its tip and the area beneath the lower lip retain a smoother appearance for longer. Pressing the lips together is one of the movements that can encourage chin wrinkles. Genetics also play a role, however, and sooner or later we all develop some degree of wrinkling in the chin area.

Chin Wrinkle Removal in Berlin with Botox or Hyaluronic Acid

Injectable treatment for chin wrinkles
Injectable chin wrinkle treatment is a quick, straightforward and effective option for suitable patients.

Dermal fillers such as hyaluronic acid can restore support beneath wrinkles and smooth the skin from within. Alternatively, Botox as a muscle relaxant can reduce the activity of the muscles involved.

Both dermal fillers and muscle-relaxing injections can therefore be useful for reducing chin wrinkles. In some cases, a combination of the two treatments may provide the most appropriate result.

Botulinum Toxin for Chin Wrinkles

Botox vial
Botulinum toxin (‘Botox’) is one option for the injectable treatment of chin wrinkles.

Botox treatment is often particularly effective for a strawberry chin or cobblestone chin. Small, superficial injections can reduce the muscular activity responsible for the uneven, dimpled skin surface that has developed over time.

Treatment is performed without a hospital stay, and initial changes may become visible relatively quickly. For most patients, the effects last for several months.

Will Botox Freeze My Facial Expression?

You should still be able to express your emotions naturally through your lips and chin after botulinum toxin injections. Botulinum toxin is a potent neurotoxin that temporarily reduces muscle activity, which is why treatment must be carried out with medical expertise. The correct dose and injection technique are particularly important. I have extensive experience in administering Botox and carefully tailor each treatment to preserve natural movement whilst softening unwanted chin wrinkles.

Hyaluronic Acid for Chin Wrinkles

Hyaluronic acid filler injection
Hyaluronic acid filler restores support beneath the skin and can visibly smooth chin wrinkles.

Hyaluronic acid, sometimes shortened to hyaluron, is a substance naturally found in the body that can bind substantial amounts of moisture. The body produces less hyaluronic acid as we age. This contributes to increasing skin dryness and makes expression lines more likely to remain visible.

Hyaluronic acid can be injected directly beneath wrinkles as a dermal filler. It is therefore particularly suitable for smoothing chin wrinkles, lines around the mouth and marionette lines. The effects usually last for several months.

The outcome of any filler treatment depends partly on the type of needle or cannula used and the practitioner’s experience. Blunt-tipped cannulas can distribute hyaluronic acid evenly across a broader area, whilst sharp needles may be used for precise treatment of particularly deep wrinkles.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chin Wrinkle Injections

Hyaluronic acid or Botox for chin wrinkles—which is better?

There is no single answer, as the most suitable option depends on an individual assessment of your skin and underlying muscle activity. As explained above, Botox is often the preferred treatment for a strawberry chin. Hyaluronic acid filler may be more appropriate for many other wrinkles around the mouth and chin.

How long does injectable chin wrinkle treatment take?

The treatment time depends on the type and extent of your chin wrinkles. In many cases, treatment can be completed within 15 to 30 minutes. There is no need for a hospital stay, and discomfort is usually minimal.

An anaesthetic cream can be applied beforehand to numb the treatment area and minimise discomfort during the procedure. Pain afterwards is uncommon. I will advise you on how to cool the treated areas following your appointment. Most patients feel comfortable returning to social and professional activities immediately.

Will I see a smoother chin immediately?

Once the anaesthetic, redness and minor swelling have subsided, the effect of treatment usually becomes apparent quickly. The skin beneath the mouth should appear smoother and more even, without unduly restricting your natural facial movement.

Is chin wrinkle treatment suitable for both men and women?

Injectable wrinkle treatments are suitable for patients of any gender. Aesthetic concerns are not limited by gender or age, and men are equally welcome at my practice. Treatment is always tailored to your anatomy, skin and personal preferences.

Can chin wrinkle treatment cause unwanted side effects?

The detailed consultation is used, among other things, to identify possible sensitivities and the small number of circumstances in which injectable wrinkle treatment may not be appropriate. I assess every patient carefully, considering both potential contraindications and the most suitable treatment method. I will also explain how to prepare for your appointment, including whether blood-thinning medicines need to be paused. You must not stop prescribed medication without first consulting the doctor who prescribed it.

Can chin wrinkle treatment be repeated?

There are two aspects to this question. In some cases, further appointments may be required soon after the initial treatment to complete or refine the result. The overall treatment plan can sometimes only be assessed fully once the first procedure has been performed. After completing a treatment cycle, both hyaluronic acid fillers and Botox can generally be repeated. The appropriate frequency depends on your individual circumstances.

How much do chin wrinkle injections cost?

The cost depends on the chosen treatment method, the severity of the wrinkles and other individual factors. Botox treatment for a strawberry chin may start from €200, whilst more extensive treatment of the chin area may cost more. I will provide clear information about the expected cost before treatment.
